1st learning diary, Business Process Integration

The 1st Learning diary requirement:

  • Your expectations of the course (what do you expect to
    learn)
  • Where do I need this stuff in the future
  • Read and comment at least 2/4 of the papers linked to the
    course secure pages
  • If you missed the lecture - read and comment 3/4 papers and see naturally the slides as well. The Damodaran's papers can also help to understand RosettaNet issues.
Nowadays, people talk a lot about B2B (business to business), B2C (business to client) and business integration. Those concepts take advantage of advances in computer networking in order for company to have high operational efficiency and capability, and also reduce operations cost. My expectation for this course is to learn some relevant and up-to-date topics in business process Integration. I also would like to know about EDI, ebXML and RosettaNet business standard. How to use them to benefit organization business process by using them? I appreciate that I can get hands dirty on doing some real practical things on course related project (time constrains?).

I have been doing software development, network related stuff and testing for a few years. Those work I have done is nothing to do with business process integration, which means I am lack of business side experience when doing business integration among companies. This course is more about B2B integration, I think it is necessary to know what process experts concern and what technical process manager concern. Generally, I need Business process integration knowledge to do nice jobs in different industries.

Comments for Business-to-Business interactions: issues and enabling technologies

This paper proposes a framework for comparing B2B interaction technologies and gives a overview of B2B interaction frameworks. It presents some state-of-the art technologies for B2B interactions such as B2B interaction in EDI (Electronic data interchange) based solutions, Internet-based EDI initiatives, CORBA-based B2B E-commerce, DCOM-based B2B E-commerce and EJB-based B2B E-commerce. Generally, It also discusses about trends in supporting interactions like RosettaNet, emXML, cxXML with different different delopyment platforms. Some open issues (security, privacy, process-based integration of services, Dynamic and scalable orchestration of services and Dependable integration of services) are mentioned in the paper, they are import issues for successful B2B integration.

This paper reveals server critical success factors for the IOS (inter-organizational information system), they are intensive stimulation, shared vision, cross-organizational implementation team, high integration with internal information systems, inter-organizational business process re-engineering, advanced legacy information system and infrastructure and shared industry standard. It uses a case study method to present the success story of the IOS of Cisco and Xiao Tong in China.

"By implementing the Cisco standards-based Integrated Commerce Solution-XML, Xiao Tong will greatly benefit from improved productivity in its e-commerce transactions with Cisco," said Ron Schorsch, VP of worldwide customer advocacy operations at Cisco. "This business-to-business integration is a first of its kind in China, and we are looking forward to extending and further developing the systems with Xiao Tong."

I tried to get Xiao Tong company business information from internet in order to know more about motivation behind it for doing the integration , surprise me, I could not find it.

About holding a AIESEC seminar for companies

Jouni Peppanen (Vice President of External Relations and Finance, AIESEC MC, Finland) said it would be nice that we can hold a seminar for all companies located in Otaniemi, Espoo. This is the easiest way to sell the internships to them. I think it is a very good idea, because there are plenty of companies around Otaniemi area. We could do the selling job in a very efficient way!

This is my first blog site!

I have been aware of people use blogs to express their ideas since long time ago, share life experience and so on. I was supposed to use it by asking from my friend, but I am kinda of fearing to be in public of internet. In addition, the main reason that I have not used blog by now, because I do not have enough time to write what I want and do not know what I should write. From now, I am trying to express myself little by little. It will be all about my life, my study and my friends.

Specially, Thanks to Mr. Paavo Kotinurmi who encourages us to use blog for writing the course learning dairies(T-76.5650 Special seminar on quality attributes in software architecture design
Fall 2007). This is the motivation behind it .

What Do I expect? Unique!
